You Needn’t Leave Utica for Cardiac Care

Many people in our area believe they should go to a main cardiac center for their heart surgery. My experience with coronary bypass graft surgery a few months ago was very gratifying.

I want to reassure people in our draw area it is unnecessary to leave Utica for most heart surgery procedures. The technology is beyond the standard of care and the experience is long and very successful. Aortic heart valve replacement is now being done as a catheter based procedure here. This is mind boggling to the point of being a technological miracle.

The postop care was the biggest surprise. It is one on one nursing at least for the first few days meaning someone is with you for all of the 24 hrs. in a day. You never feel alone and the care from the nursing staff has an urgency to it that can’t help but impress you.

Caring is the medical term for love. It is a fairly high level of love, being relatively unconditional. Studies have shown its healing impact. To connect with this high frequency vibration will give one memories ranking with ones love of family. Maybe more so.

It is a critical component to healing post cardiac surgery at St. Elizabeth. Even more so if done locally so that family can participate at a more intimate level than if it were done in a foreign city where the fear factor is higher. This caring starts at the top. With administrators to the Surgeons and program directors that carries down through nursing ranks even to dietary and housekeeping.

In my mind staying local is the right choice for those facing this type of surgery.
